予報に反して猛暑日の山行となった。九州自然歩道を含む登山道は自然林が多く、直射日光のあたる場所は少なかったが、夏草が茂り踏み跡の少ない道は、時々立ち止まり、行き先確認をしながら歩行した。
初登頂の眉山は周囲が雑草と雑木に覆われ展望なし。三角点は立派だったが・・・！舗装道まで一旦下り、川内峠から八幡岳へは急登が続いた。途中から軽い熱中症に罹ったらしく、湧水で頭を冷やす（アイスノンで冷やすほど重症だとは思わなかった）。しかし足がだんだん重くなり、山頂手前１ｋｍ付近で足が攣った。直ぐ「芍薬甘草湯６８」を服用、使用したのは何年ぶりだろうか？記憶にない。足の痛みに堪えながら登る。満開のキツネノカミソリ群生地の中を進むも、その感激に癒されることは無く、一心に頂上を目指す。こんな辛い山行、最近では記憶にない。山頂に着いた時は “もう登らなくていいんだ” と思うとホッとした。つくづく体力と歳を実感じ、弱気になる自分がいた。仲間から励ましの言葉や貴重な水をいただき感謝している。山頂及び展望所からは天山など近郊の山々が望めた。下山時にはいつもの体調に戻り、軽快に足が運べ、満開のキツネノカミソリの華やかさに感動した。 反省 ： 水分は１５００㏄持参したが、猛暑と長距離を考慮し２０００㏄ほど持参すれば良かった。また、軽い熱中症ではないかと感じた時、持参したアイスノンを使用すべきだったかもしれない。
