前回の奥豊後コースと同様に、ゴール地点（JR香春駅）からスタート地点（JR採銅所駅）までJRの旅を楽しんだ。大正４年築造の趣ある駅舎を出発。「JR八幡駅～牛斬山ロング縦走」の時歩いた道の一部を逆歩し、矢山の丘登山口で衣服調整。予報では最高気温が１５℃、暑くなりそうだ。竹林の中、青春の門や夫婦杉を見ながら標高差１５０ｍのジグザグ道を登る。一汗かいて矢山の丘に到着し、愛の鐘を鳴らす。採銅所地区を展望の後、下山。登山道の左手は竹林で、太さ２０cmの竹も見られた。御長生金山跡を見逃し直ぐ下の水量の少ない御長生の滝を見る。神間歩公園では銅鉱山の跡を見学。柿畑を通過しJR日田彦山線との交差を トンネルで抜ける。金辺川に架かる甘木橋を渡り 「見晴らし展望台」で香春岳や竜ゲ鼻を望みながら昼食。切株上ハロウィンの置物が可愛い！タケノコ栽培されている立派な竹林を抜け、六十尺鉄橋展望台では鉄道マニアの気持ちで風景を楽しむ。道の駅「香春」でトイレ休憩。鏡山火薬庫付近でムラサキシキブや美男カズラに出会う。少し荒れた万葉公園を過ぎ、小富士・愛宕山登山口を見送り、ふくろう岩へ。バイパスの法面を下り、貴船神社や上高野観音寺を散策。小川に多くの錦鯉が泳いでいてビックリ！農道やあぜ道を歩きながら田園風景を楽しむ。標識「香春」から見る香春岳、正に故郷の山だと感じた。オルレカウンターで今日の参加者６人をカウントし、時計台のある高野口を通過。伊能忠敬の碑を見て、元光願寺の大クスに圧倒される！延命地蔵尊に参拝し住宅街を通り、香春神社に到着。巨大な山王石に驚く。香春岳一ノ岳から落石したのに社殿に傷が付かなかったとの事、神がかりのように思えた。石の上に置かれた小さな鳥居に石を投げてみた。なかなか上手くいかない。乗った時には思わず笑みが！千年以上の歴史を持つ社殿には、新しい年を迎えるしめ縄が奉納されていた。ここの大イチョウや大クスも立派だった。石段を下り参拝を終了。金辺川沿いを歩きながら、一ノ岳の石灰岩砕石所を眺める。跨道橋を渡り役場前を通過し、ほぼ予定通りの時間にゴール地点のＪＲ香春駅に到着。天気に恵まれ心地よいオルレを体感できた。
