東北に着いた10/6にちょうど岩木山・八甲田山・岩手山が昨年よりも１１日早く初冠雪を迎え、紅葉を通り越して一気に雪景色になりました。岩木山には津軽岩木スカイラインを車で上り、8合目からの八百長登山。雪を纏った津軽富士とも呼ばれる青森県最高峰の岩木山からは、北海道やこれから登る八甲田山・岩手山が見渡せました。

八甲田山といえば新田次郎の小説「八甲田死の彷徨」や高倉健主演の映画「八甲田山」での明治時代に起きた陸軍の雪中行軍遭難事件の印象が強く、厳しい山のイメージでしたが実際には池塘が多い草紅葉の穏やかな山容でした。山頂はガスで展望がありませんでした。

岩手山も岩手富士と呼ばれる美しい形をしていますが、晴れ予報であったにもかかわらず７合目以降は
ガスで展望がありませんでした。９合目からの御鉢巡りは突風で飛ばされないように防風姿勢をとりながら歩きました。
